Sometimes… Don’t Edit

Sometimes go with the first draft.

Sometimes take a chance.

Sometimes just enough is plenty.

Sometimes do it even if you’re not feeling it.

Sometimes turn up late instead of not at all.

Sometimes don’t bother going.

Sometimes put yourself out there.

Sometimes hide away for a day.

Sometimes go with the first take and don’t make your usual fuss.

Sometimes… don’t edit.

Because sometimes the raw version is the most beautiful.

Sometimes the risk will pay off.

Sometimes just enough is all you have.

Sometimes you’ll surprise yourself.

Sometimes you were just feeling lazy.

And sometimes you needed a rest.

Sometimes you’re stronger than you think you are.

And sometimes, yes, hiding is best.

Sometimes your words will be perfect. You’ll find them come tumbling out.

And perfection is overrated.

Edits hinder. Edits create doubt.

You ebb.

You flow.

You write.

You’ll know.

Sometimes craft and preen and clip and streamline.

Sometimes just put it straight out.
